THE HISTORY OF OLYMPOS....

The city takes it”s name from tahtali mountain. Which is in the north and 2375m height. The antique name is olympos which means uludag.
The city is in the 80km south of Antalya and its in antique Lycian area.

We can not know definite establismenttime.it is first seen in the history. Scene with the imppessment of lycian comminty ancient coins between the years of 168=78 b.c in the comminity council which is an economical organization. Olympos has three vating right.

İn 80 b.c the city congvered by the protes who are in the commond of zenikeles and in 78 the city has taken by romains. İn 130 b.c the roman emperor hadrionus, has wisited the city and he stayed there for along time..

in greek and roman times, the city adaptedpoliteism and they have made a lot of temples for apollon, zeus, atena and hepheistas.
Christionity came to the city early and the city is represended by archi=bisnop. But first bishop methoidos is killed by romans.
During the crusodes olympos was invaded by venetions, cenova and rodos knights. İn the 15^th century, during the time of fatih sultan mehmet, the city is joined to ottoman empire.but in olympos, there is no settlement till now all parts of olympos used as winter guarters by nomods is under the protection of archaeological and natural site area..
the city established in a valley that to the sea and there is a river which flows in the middle.. in ancient times, into that river, ships can enter and both sides can be used as a pier. The main settelement is an south partl. But in the north groves are sitweted. And a bridge was connecting both sides
after the medival periot, the city which has no settelement lost among trees and has gained a mystical appearance...
